I’m the world’s oldest living female competitive bodybuilder – I started in my 50s and look unrecognizable from my youth

THE world’s oldest living female competitive bodybuilder had proved you don’t need age on your side to achieve your fitness goals.

Ernestine Shepherd is in the best shape of her life at the ripe old age of 86 – and even runs her own exercise classes to teach youngsters a thing or two.

Ernestine Shepherd, 86, proves age is just a number with her fitness abilities[/caption]
She was crowned the world’s oldest living female competitive bodybuilder in 2010 by the Guiness World Records[/caption]
The 86-year-old had never worked out until the age of 56 – but still managed to become a fitness marvel[/caption]
The powerful gran showed off her incredible transformation over the years

The grandma can easily outlift the majority of gymgoers after guzzling ten egg whites and a handful of walnuts each morning.

She credits the protein-rich concoction for fuelling her body to run 80 miles each week and getting up for her 4am workouts.

The fitness fanatic, from the US state of Baltimore, only ventured into her health journey after hitting her 50s.

Ernestine was “prissy” when it came to exercise in her teen years and had never worked out a day in her life – until the age of 56.

She had been shopping for swimwear with her beloved sister Velvet, 57, when the pair vowed they would get into better shape.

The sisters, encouraged by the support of their local church, hit the gym and soon began to notice a huge difference in their physiques.

After getting into lifting weights, the sisters dreamed that one day they would make it into the Guinness Book of World Records.

But tragedy struck when Velvet suddenly passed away after suffering a brain aneurysm – sending Ernestine into a spiral of depression and anxiety.

“I went to pieces; I didn’t want to do anything… It was an awful way to live,” she said.

But after the gran’s pals rallied around her and her late sister came to her in a dream, she was inspired to restart her fitness journey.

Motivated by her love for Sylvester Stallone in the acclaimed Rocky films, Ernestine set out to achieve health and happiness.

Determined to bag a world record in honour of Velvet, she began sculpting her body into the perfect form for bodybuilding.

She got in touch with former Mr Universe, Yohnnie Shambourger, who offered his expertise to help her achieve world glory.

Ernestine switched up her diet and upped her weightlifting to create her enviably toned bod, before entering her first contest just seven months later, aged 71.

She won first place – seeing The Guinness Book of World Records contact her to crown her as the world’s oldest performing female bodybuilder in 2010.

The elderly marvel confessed she scattered some of her sister’s ashes while accepting the title on an Italian TV show.

“I’ll never forget standing on that stage as I collected my medal and certificate,” she gushed. “‘I’ve done what you wanted, Velvet’, I remember saying as tears filled my eyes.”

Ernestine’s triumph sparked a flood of interest in her lifestyle, seeing her earn a spot in Ripley’s Believe it or Not! book in 2011.

I’ll never forget standing on that stage as I collected my medal and certificate. ‘I’ve done what you wanted, Velvet’, I remember saying as tears filled my eyes.

But she remained focused on her fitness, performing in several more bodybuilding competitions and completing nine marathons.

The 86-year-old claims chat show host Oprah Winfrey even Skyped her once to get workout tips.

Ernestine’s strength has continued to build, seeing her bench-press 115lb weights at the age of 86 to keep her muscles defined.

She now offers her knowledge to other seniors keen to get fit by running exercise classes as well as working as a personal trainer.

But she is still down with the kids and dons tight-fitting gym sets – and sometimes even heels – when burning some calories.

As well as being a role model for her husband, son and grandson, Ernestine has even “adopted” a group of youngsters at the gym who refer to her as “mum”.

Her incredible transformation even caught the eye of global superstar Beyonce – who gave her a cameo in her 2020 visual album Black is King.

Flexing her muscles and donning a bright orange t-shirt, the gran gave the music icon just as good as she got.

Ernestine gushed: “It was a wonderful, wonderful experience. Beyonce made me feel like a queen. I felt so honoured.

“I felt like I had the power to smile again. Beyonce has no idea what she’s done for me.”

Ernestine – who lives on a strict diet of eggs, chicken and vegetables – shared the secrets of her fitness journey in her book Determined, Dedicated, Disciplined To Be Fit, in 2016.

The lycra-lover takes readers through the journey of her body transformation and proves you can teach an old dog new tricks.

China RELAXES ultra-strict Covid rules after weeks of historic protests in humiliating climbdown for weakened Xi

XI Jinping has relaxed his draconian Covid rules after weeks of historic protests in a humiliating climbdown for the dictator.

In a sharp turnaround, China has rolled back some of its most strict rules – including slashing the length of lockdowns and ordering pupils to return to classrooms.

Anger over China’s zero-Covid policy – involving mass lockdowns, constant testing and lengthy quarantines – stoked huge unrest on a scale not seen since the 1989 pro-democracy protests.

And in an announcement on Wednesday, China’s National Health Commission confirmed rules will be relaxed.

The frequency and scope of PCR testing will be reduced, lockdowns will be scaled down, and people with non-severe Covid cases can isolate at home instead of at overcrowded field hospitals.

People will no longer be required to show proof of Covid tests and a clean bill of health on their phone to enter public buildings and spaces – apart from areas such as nurseries, elderly care facilities and schools.

The new rules have also scrapped the forced quarantines for people with no symptoms or with mild cases.

The scale of lockdowns has been limited to individual apartment floors and buildings, rather than entire districts and neighbourhoods – and lockdowns can last no longer than five days unless additional cases are detected.

“Asymptomatic infected persons and mild cases who are eligible for home isolation are generally isolated at home, or they can voluntarily choose centralised isolation for treatment,” the commission said.

“Mass PCR testing only carried out in schools, hospitals, nursing homes and high-risk work units; scope and frequency of PCR testing to be further reduced.

“People travelling across provinces do not need to provide a 48h test result and do not need to test upon arrival.”

The climbdown comes after unprecedented protests across the country over Xi’s strict zero-Covid policy – which is now entering its fourth year.

Hundreds took to the streets in eight cities – including Beijing and Shanghai – after the deaths of 10 people in an apartment fire was blamed on lockdown rules.

Protesters called for more political freedoms, with some even calling for Xi to step down.

China has desperately tried to maintain the hardline policy while keeping the world’s second-largest economy humming.

But the nationwide outpouring of public frustration appears to have finally swayed the opinion of top Communist Party officials.

Under the new measures, restrictions will also be lifted on the sale of cold medications, and vaccinations for the elderly will be stepped up.

Orders for businesses and transport companies to suspend services will be lifted.

And greater attention will be paid to public safety – with fire exits no longer blocked due to lockdown orders.

How the rules have been relaxed

  • People with non-severe Covid cases can now isolate at home
  • People are no longer required to show a ‘green health code’ to enter public buildings and public spaces – with some exceptions
  • Forced quarantines for people with no symptoms or mild cases have been scrapped
  • Schools where there have been no outbreaks must return to in-class teaching
  • Lockdowns will be limited to apartment floor and buildings – rather than entire districts and neighbourhoods
  • Lockdowns can last no longer than five days unless new cases are detected
  • Restrictions lifted on the sale of cold medications
  • Orders for businesses and transport companies to suspend services have been lifted
  • Restrictions on using public transport without proof of a negative test have been lifted in some cities

Officials have been gradually rolling back restrictions in the last few days.

On Monday, commuters in Beijing and 16 other cities were allowed to board buses and subways without a virus test in the previous 48 hours for the first time in months.

Shanghai – which underwent a brutal two-month lockdown this year – announced the same rules – with residents able to go to outdoor venues such as parks and tourist attractions without a recent test.

Industrial centres near Hong Kong have reopened markets and businesses and lifted most curbs on movement while keeping restrictions on neighbourhoods with infections.

Zhiwei Zhang, chief economist at Pinpoint Asset Management, said: “This change of policy is a big step forward. I expect China will fully reopen its border no later than mid 2023.”

But the relaxed approach has sparked a rush for Covid treatments as some – including the elderly – now feel more vulnerable to the virus.

Authorities across the country have warned of tight supplies and price gouging from retailers in recent days.

“Please buy rationally, buy on demand, and do not blindly stock up,” the Beijing Municipal Food and Drug Administration reportedly warned.

Analysts at Japanese firm Nomura on Monday estimated that 53 cities – home to nearly a third of China’s population – still had some restrictions in place.

I’m a Wuhan lab leak whistleblower – I was trailed by the FBI who spied on me with drones & raided my home to...

A SCIENTIST who claims Covid was engineered in a US-funded Wuhan lab has accused the FBI of trailing him with drones and breaking into his house to silence him.

Dr Andrew Huff, former vice president at EcoHealth Alliance, said he was followed for more than a year as he began to unravel an alleged extensive “cover-up” by the US government.

The Wuhan Institute of Virology has been at the centre of the storm over the origins of Covid[/caption]

Dr Andrew Huff claimed he was harassed by the police and FBI for nearly two years[/caption]

Legal documents provided to The Sun Online show whistleblower Dr Huff is preparing to file a legal injunction and temporary restraining order against the FBI and other US government agencies.

In his new book – The Truth About Wuhan – the epidemiologist claims the pandemic was the result of the US government’s funding of dangerous genetic engineering of coronaviruses in China.

He branded the origins of the Covid pandemic as one of the greatest cover-ups in history – and claims the “US government is to blame for the transfer of dangerous biotechnology to the Chinese”.

Dr Huff said China’s gain-of-function experiments – carried out with shoddy biosafety – led to a lab leak at the US-funded Wuhan Institute of Virology.

But as he went public with his explosive claims, the army veteran said the US government launched “an illegal psychological operation” against him.

Dr Huff, an expert in bioterrorism and biowarfare, said his book on Wuhan was delayed by months because “the government hacked his computer”.

“It was crazy… I couldn’t believe it was happening,” he told The Sun Online.

“I felt like a bad dream. I had the Julian Assange treatment, but I hadn’t done anything illegal.

“To put it bluntly, I have balls of steel, and I’m not afraid of these people.”

He added: “I can tell you the US government agencies involved were the FBI, the Defence Intelligence Agency, and the Department of Homeland Security.

“All the sources of the hacking went back to the Department of Defence.

“I used to work on teams who developed this kind of technology… then I became the target.”

Dr Huff claimed military grade drones appeared at his home every day, he was stalked at the supermarket and across the country, and he was often followed by unknown vehicles.

He said his house was burgled, his phone was repeatedly hacked, and even claimed someone fired a bullet through his mailbox.

In one terrifying incident, Dr Huff claims he watched as a man broke into his house and tried to destroy photo on his computer while he was outside putting up a security camera.

I felt like a bad dream. I had the Julian Assange treatment, but I hadn’t done anything illegal

Dr Andrew Huff

He said: “I used to have top security clearance. The government typically doesn’t go after the person who receives a leak. They go after the person who leaks the information.

“The type of thing they did to me, I’ve heard of the government doing that to people who leak information.

“That’s not shocking or surprising – but they never do it to the person who receives the information.”

Over a period of more than a year, the scientist believes the “spying” operation would have cost the government up to $50million – based on a team of 20 to 30 people running the operation.

Dr Huff said he reported more than fifty federal crimes against him – but alleges the FBI refused to investigate as they were “complicit in the crimes”.

“Their goal was to discredit me, to scare me, and to prevent me from speaking out,” he said in his book.

“I collected piles of cold, hard evidence of the crimes committed against me by the US government, including photographic evidence of trespassers and highly sophisticated drones being flown at distances of a few feet from my house caught on camouflaged motion activated trail cameras.”

In his book, Dr Huff reveals a list of incidents taken from a temporary restraining order and injunction that his lawyer – Thomas Renz – is preparing to file against the US government and Michigan police.

Starting in October last year, the scientist said he received “numerous text messages warning him to stay safe” and claimed he was sent indirect death threats on social media.

Fears for his safety escalated as he claims high end military grade drones appeared at his 171-acre property every day from dusk to dawn for more than a year.

The army veteran, who claims he is trained in counter surveillance detection, also found he was being followed on multiple occasions – alleging he was the target of a “sophisticated tailing operation comprised of multiple vehicles”.

Dr Huff also claims he “observed an attempt to delete files from his personal computer” – including EcoHealth Alliance records – and his security cameras were often “tampered with”.

The scientist also claimed he was left unable to access his personal and business accounts or the internet on his phone or computer from November 11 to January 10 after a hack.

He said he decided to reach out for his professional network and get in touch with the FBI – who allegedly refused to investigate the claims.

Dr Huff said he sent “registered letters to numerous federal and Michigan state government officials requesting help and stating that his constitutional rights are being violated”.

He also reported all the incidents to the local cops – but he claims they did little to help.

Since starting in October last year, Dr Huff claimed the “harassment campaign” from the Michigan cops, the FBI and the Department of Defense hasn’t eased up.

“Several members of my family and neighbours, as well as numerous people in my local rural community, several members of local law enforcement, and my attorney Tom Renz, have all been witnesses to everything,” he said in his book.

“My one-and-a-half-year-old son was anxious, frightened, and neurotic at the height of the illegal harassment.”

The Sun has contacted the FBI for comment.

Dr Huff, who worked at EcoHealth Alliance from 2014 to 2016 and served as vice president from 2015, worked on the classified side of the research programme as a US government scientist.

During his time at the New York-based non-profit, he reportedly helped develop biosurvelliance platforms for US intelligence agencies.

And the army veteran, from Michigan, said the organisation taught the Wuhan lab the “best existing methods to engineer bat coronaviruses to attack other species” for many years.

He claimed “China knew from day one that this was a genetically engineered agent”.

In his book, the emerging infectious diseases expert claims “greedy scientists killed millions of people globally” – and goes as far as to claim the US government covered it up.

Dr Huff said: “Nobody should be surprised that the Chinese lied about the outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 and then went to extraordinary lengths to make it appear as if the disease naturally emerged.

“The shocking part of all of this is how the United States government lied to all of us.”

In 2014, Dr Huff was asked to review a funding proposal which revealed that gain of function work was being carried out to create SARS-CoV-2 – which causes Covid.

My one-and-a-half-year-old son was anxious, frightened, and neurotic at the height of the illegal harassment

Dr Andrew Huff

Gain of function work sees viruses souped up to more easily infect humans to help researchers test scientific theories, develop new technologies and find treatments for infectious diseases.

But the risky research method can pose safety and security concerns – and it’s banned in many countries.

Dr Huff realised the EcoHealth Alliance was working closely with the Wuhan lab on gain of function research, with the support of USAID – a US government department.

He soon realised the virus would never occur in nature and had been developed into a much more powerful pathogen in the lab.

Dr Huff believes Covid was genetically engineered in Wuhan through gain of function research funded by the US government – and poor biosafety led to a lab leak.

He pointed out he has seen no evidence China deliberately released the virus.

Dr Huff has since filed a lawsuit with Renz Law LLC against EcoHealth Alliance in the state of New York.

EcoHealth Alliance has denied Dr Huff’s allegations – stating that his claims are “not true”.

“Mr Huff alleges that EcoHealth Alliance was engaged in gain of function research to create SARS-CoV-2. This is not true,” it said.

Documents obtained by The Intercept show the US government and EcoHealth Alliance were working on gain of function research with the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

EcoHealth Alliance claimed “the emerging consensus, based on peer-reviewed scientific evidence, is that Covid originated through zoonotic spillover”.

Scientists and researchers have not yet been able to determine the origins of the pandemic – with a lab leak and a natural source both being probed.

Dozens of experts have suggested Covid could have escaped from the Wuhan lab through an infected researcher, improper disposal of waste, or potential breaches in the security at the site.

Even the head of the World Health Organisation reportedly believes Covid did leak from the lab after a “catastrophic accident”.

The National Institutes of Health previously stated in a letter to Congress the bat viruses EcoHealth Alliance were studying in Wuhan could not have become the virus that causes Covid.
